Mining Sector Exports Reach $1.52 Billion

Mining Sector Exports Reach USD 1.52 Billion The mining sector, which supplies raw materials to many branches of industry, reached USD 1.52 billion in exports during the first quarter of 2022. In assessments of the sector's first three-month export performance, TİM Mining Sector Board Chairman and İMİB Board Chairman Aydın Dinçer stated that the sector experienced a 25.8 percent value increase on an annual basis. Dinçer, noting that the year-end target is USD 7 billion, stated that they are continuing their efforts to reach this figure through trade fair participation, purchasing delegations and promotional activities. The mining sector, which has the highest value-added creation and employment capacity among sectors, achieved USD 556.3 million in exports in March, reaching USD 1.52 billion in exports for the first quarter of the year. Sharing views on March data for sector exports, Turkey Exporters Assembly (TİM) Mining Sector Board Chairman and Istanbul Mining Exporters Association (İMİB) Board Chairman Aydın Dinçer announced that the value increase in exports on an annual basis was 25.8 percent.
Metallic Ores in First Place
Dinçer provided the following information regarding export data from subcategories of the mining sector: "In the first 3 months of the year, metallic ores showed a 37.34 percent increase compared to the same period last year and ranked first with USD 570.53 million in exports. In second place were natural stones with a 7.68 percent increase and USD 480.2 million, and in third place were industrial minerals with a 19.2 percent increase and USD 291.3 million. These mining groups were followed by ferroalloys with a 101.05 percent increase and USD 116.6 million in exports."
United States Leads in First Three Months of Exports
Dinçer stated that the United States ranked first in natural stone exports in the sector's first 3 months with a 13.8 percent value increase and USD 112.9 million, noting that China was in second place and USD 104.8 million worth of natural stone was exported to the country. Dinçer stated that after China, Israel was in third place with USD 25.9 million, France with USD 24.1 million, and Iraq with USD 22.7 million.
