Mining Sector Sets 12 Billion Dollar Export Target
Mining exporters from Muğla contributed USD 53 million to Turkey's exports during January-May 2022, representing a 44% increase compared to the same period of the previous year. Muğla's mining exports had reached USD 37 million during the first five months of 2021.
İbrahim Alimoğlu, Chairman of Aegean Mining Exporters Association, emphasized that the mining sector ranks as the second strongest sector in Muğla's exports. He noted that of the 1,200 members of the association that exported in 2021, 125 were from Muğla.
Alimoğlu stated that as the Aegean Mining Exporters Association, they held their first Board of Directors Meetings outside İzmir in Muğla during the 2022-26 period, and conducted their first member meeting with mining exporters from Muğla.
Explaining that they assumed office at the Aegean Mining Exporters Association following the general assembly held on 22 April 2022, Alimoğlu said: "Our colleagues from Muğla – Halilullah Kaya from Kaymin Marble, Zeynep Duman from Dumanlar Marble, and Emre Karaöz from Kar Mining – joined our team representing mining exporters from Muğla. Our companies from Muğla achieved USD 133 million in exports through our Aegean Mining Exporters Association in 2021. Of this export volume, USD 87 million came from natural stone."
We are targeting 12 billion dollars in exports within four years
Providing information that the mining sector contributed USD 6 billion to Turkey's exports in 2021, Alimoğlu continued: "Our natural stone sector achieved USD 2.2 billion of our mining sector's export volume. By the end of our term of office, our goal is to develop projects with you to increase our mining exports to USD 12 billion. Throughout this process, the suggestions of our members will always be a priority and guide for us."
