Chemical Sector's Eleven-Month Exports Reach USD 14.734 Billion

According to data from İKMİB, chemical exports in November increased by 20.64 percent compared to November 2016, reaching USD 1.399 billion. The sector's eleven-month exports rose by 16.04 percent to USD 14.734 billion. Egypt ranked first among countries with the highest exports in November. Turkey's chemical industry, which ranks as the country's third-largest exporting sector, maintained its upward export trajectory in November. Chemical sector exports in November increased by 20.64 percent compared to November 2016, reaching USD 1.399 billion.

Highest Exports to Egypt in November

Egypt became the leading destination for exports in November. Chemical exports to Egypt reached USD 97.397 million in November 2017, compared to USD 59.960 million in November 2016, representing a 62 percent increase. Other countries in the top ten for sectoral exports following Egypt were: Germany, Iraq, Netherlands, Italy, United States, United Kingdom, Iran, China and Saudi Arabia.

Plastics and Plastic Products Continue to Lead in Exports

In subsectors, plastics and plastic products exports continue to drive chemical exports. Plastics and plastic products, which recorded the highest exports in November, maintained their leading position with USD 488.702 million in exports. Mineral fuels, oils and related products ranked second with USD 237.286 million in exports, while rubber and rubber articles came third with USD 121.739 million. Other sectors in the top ten following rubber articles were: 'inorganic chemicals', 'pharmaceutical products', 'essential oils and cosmetics', 'soaps and washing preparations', 'paints, varnishes, inks and preparations', 'organic chemicals' and 'miscellaneous chemical substances'. Looking at the sector's eleven-month export performance, chemical industry exports from January to November reached USD 14.734 billion with a 16.04 percent increase. The countries with the highest exports during this period were: United Arab Emirates, Germany, Iraq, United States, Egypt, Italy, Iran, Spain, United Kingdom and Greece.

İKMİB Chairman of the Board of Management Murat Akyüz, evaluating the chemical sector's November performance, said: "In November, Egypt was the country where we achieved the highest chemical exports.

Our chemical exports to Egypt in November reached USD 97.397 million. The top three product categories we supplied to Egypt are 'adhesives and glues, enzymes', 'essential oils and cosmetics' and 'soaps and washing preparations'. In the top ten following Egypt are Germany, Iraq, Netherlands, Italy, United States, United Kingdom, Iran, China and Saudi Arabia. Despite political developments, we are seeing noteworthy growth in Egypt, Germany and the United States. Our total chemical exports in November reached USD 1.399 billion. We have achieved USD 14.734 billion in exports over eleven months, and we aim to reach USD 16 billion in exports by year-end. We are pleased with the continued growth in chemical sector exports, which is one of Turkey's top three exporting sectors. As İKMİB, we organize numerous buying missions and trade delegations, and we ensure national participation in the most important trade fairs abroad. We will continue our efforts for sector growth and reaching new markets," he said.
