Chemistry Sector September Exports: USD 2.3 Billion According to data from the Istanbul Chemical Substances and Products Exporters Association (İKMİB), chemical sector exports in September reached USD 2.3 billion. Sector exports increased by more than 41% compared to September of the previous year. In the nine-month period of this year, chemical substances and products exports reached USD 18.2 billion with a 39% increase. Adil Pelister, Chairman of the Board of Management of the Istanbul Chemical Substances and Products Exporters Association (İKMİB), made the following remarks regarding the chemical sector's September export figures: "Our chemistry sector realized USD 2.3 billion in chemical substances and products exports in September with a 41.71% increase compared to the previous year. Our sector exports in the first nine months reached USD 18.2 billion with a 39% increase. Our third quarter exports materialized at USD 6.2 billion, growing 37% compared to the same period last year. In September, we exported mostly 'plastics and plastic products', 'mineral fuels, mineral oils and products' and 'inorganic chemicals'. Iraq was the country with the highest exports in September, followed by the United States and Belgium. Of course, on the other hand, difficulties in raw material supply and high costs continue. Our exporters are trying to produce and increase exports despite these difficulties. As the second sector with the highest exports in the first nine months of this year, we are making a significant contribution to the country's economy. Therefore, we find the work on establishing an Export Development Fund announced by our President and the restructuring of Eximbank very important in terms of access to financing. We expect our exports to sustain and increase this positive momentum over the next three months. As İKMİB, we continue to carry out activities to support our exporters. We will have one national participation trade fair organization each month until the end of the year. This month we will participate in BeautyWorld Me 2021 in Dubai, Medica 2021 in Düsseldorf in November and PLMA 2021 in Amsterdam in December. We can say that being able to hold these events physically after the pandemic is the greatest indicator of global normalization. Our aim is for our country, which stands out in the global supply chain after the pandemic, to reach better positions and increase our share by exporting more," he said.

Iraq was the Country with the Highest Exports in September

Iraq was the country with the highest exports in September. The other countries among the top ten following Iraq in September were the United States, Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, Romania, Italy, Spain, Lebanon and the United Kingdom. The highest increase among the top 10 countries in September was 282.12% to Belgium. Chemical exports to Iraq in September reached USD 111,161,000. This represented a 5.50% increase compared to the same period last year. The top five product groups exported to Iraq in September were 'plastics and plastic products', 'essential oils, cosmetics and soap', 'paints, varnishes, inks and preparations', 'pharmaceutical products' and 'cleaning preparations'. In the January-September period of 2021, the countries with the highest chemical exports were the Netherlands, Germany, the United States, Italy, Iraq, Spain, Greece, the United Kingdom, Belgium and Romania in the top ten. In September, plastics and plastic products export ranked first in chemical substances and products with USD 843,316,000. In second place was mineral fuels, mineral oils and products with USD 460,002,000 in exports, while inorganic chemicals export ranked third with USD 186,643,000. Other sectors in the top ten following 'inorganic chemicals' were 'essential oils, cosmetics and soap', 'rubber and rubber products', 'pharmaceutical products', 'paints, varnishes, inks and preparations', 'miscellaneous chemical substances', 'organic chemicals' and 'cleaning preparations'. The highest export increase among subsectors in September was realized in the organic chemicals sector with 115.12%.
