Exports Reach $200 Billion

Exports Reach USD 200 Billion İsmail Gülle, President of the Turkish Exporters Council, made remarks at the awards ceremony of the ATHİB Woven Fabric and Design Competition, organized by the Mediterranean Textile Raw Materials Exporters Association. TİM President Gülle stated that the USD 200 billion export target was reached in October. Gülle said: "We have an export target of USD 250 billion for 2023. I am very confident and certain that we will achieve this in 2022." ADANA (AA) - İsmail Gülle, President of the Turkish Exporters Council (TİM), stated that October's foreign sales reached the highest monthly export figure in the history of the Republic. The awards ceremony for the ATHİB Woven Fabric and Design Competition, organized by the Mediterranean Textile and Raw Materials Exporters Association (ATHİB), was held for the 10th time this year. The ceremony took place at the Adana Museum. TİM President Gülle made remarks at the ceremony. Noting that the competition is a very positive event in opening doors and horizons for new and young designers, Gülle also stated that Turkey achieves important successes in exports every month. Gülle said: "Last month our export figure was the highest monthly export figure in our Republic's history, USD 7.8 billion. We reached the USD 200 billion figure this year. The Republic's first export was USD 50.8 million. Structures such as our first textile factory in Turkey, built on fertile lands and in which we currently operate, continue to inspire us and show how deeply rooted our past is, even as generations pass."

October Export Coverage Ratio for Imports at 93 Percent

Gülle noted that exports, which were USD 1 billion until 1973, increased to USD 10 billion in 1987, and they succeeded in reaching the USD 200 billion figure in 2021. Quoting Atatürk's words at the Izmir Economic Congress: "We cannot be fully independent unless we support independence with economic independence," Gülle said: "This means you must sell more than you buy. You must not be in debt. The October export coverage ratio for imports was 93 percent. We have made important strides on the path to becoming a country with a foreign trade surplus. We will not forget 2020, which they took from us, and 2021, which they brought us. The ones doing this are exporters. All this happiness comes from them, and they are the ones giving us happy and good news every month, even in the world's worst times. They gave me the happiness of announcing monthly records in our Republic's history. I thank all of them." he said. Following the speeches at the ceremony, the designs of the 10 design students who made it to the finals of the competition were displayed on the podium by models. Sema Arı won first place in the competition, while Demet Yavuzyiğit came second and İpek Çakır came third. Prize-winners received plaques and monetary awards.
