EIB Posts Exports of USD 1.74 Billion

EIB Posts USD 1.74 Billion in Exports Aegean Exporters Associations (EIB) achieved a monthly export record in the republic's 100-year history with USD 1.74 billion in exports during March. EIB improved its March 2022 exports of USD 1.506 billion by 7 percent. The previous record held by Aegean Exporters Associations, which comprises 12 exporter associations, was USD 1.702 billion in June 2022. In March, EIB surpassed this record by USD 38 million. Of the 12 exporter associations under the EIB umbrella, 7 increased their exports in March. Turkey raised its March exports by 4.4 percent to USD 23.6 billion, while the Aegean Region increased exports by 7 percent from USD 2.794 billion to USD 2.982 billion. The Aegean Region, exceeding Turkey's average growth rate, reached a monthly export volume of USD 3 billion. Industrial products exports from Aegean Exporters Associations reached USD 957 million, while agricultural products exports advanced 25 percent from USD 548 million to USD 686.5 million. Aegean mining exporters registered USD 96.5 million in exports during March.  

Steel maintained top position

Aegean Iron and Non-Ferrous Metals Exporters Association repeated its March 2022 performance with USD 264.2 million in exports, maintaining its leading position among the 12 exporter associations under the EIB umbrella.

Cereals, pulses and oilseeds continue record-breaking streak

Aegean Cereals, Pulses, Oilseeds and Products Exporters Association, which crossed the USD 1 billion threshold for the first time at the end of 2022, achieved a record export growth rate of 63.4 percent in March and posted USD 121.8 million in export performance. Aegean Fresh Fruits and Vegetables Exporters Association, which increased exports by 24 percent in March, achieved USD 117 million in exports and joined the sectors exceeding the USD 100 million threshold. Aegean Mining Exporters Association posted USD 96.5 million in export performance, while Aegean Dried Fruits and Products Exporters Association advanced its March 2022 exports of USD 74 million to USD 84 million in March 2023 with a 13 percent increase and USD 10 million in gains.  

Tobacco, textiles and leather exports increased

Aegean Tobacco Exporters Association raised March exports by 18 percent from USD 58 million to USD 68 million, while Aegean Textiles and Raw Materials Exporters Association advanced by 21 percent from USD 37 million to USD 45 million. Aegean Leather and Leather Products Exporters Association improved its March 2022 exports of USD 18.3 million by 19 percent to USD 21.9 million in March 2023.

EIB's agricultural exports increased by over USD 1 billion over the past year

Over the past 12 months, EIB's total exports increased by 7.5 percent from USD 17.2 billion to USD 18.5 billion, while the Aegean Region, which leads Turkey in agricultural exports, advanced its agricultural exports by 18 percent from USD 6.028 billion to USD 7.098 billion. EIB's agricultural exports showed growth exceeding USD 1 billion over the past year.

Izmir raised exports by 17 percent

Izmir, as always, provided the largest contribution to the Aegean Region's exports. Izmir increased its March 2022 exports of USD 1.437 billion to USD 1.679 billion in March 2023 with a 17 percent increase. Two free zones contributed USD 331 million to these exports. In Izmir's exports, the chemical sector held the top position with USD 216 million in share, while ready-made garments and textiles took second place with USD 128 million in exports. The steel sector, in third place, posted USD 111 million in exports.

Manisa's exports reached USD 500 million

Manisa raised its March 2022 exports of USD 491 million to USD 498 million in March 2023 with a 1 percent increase and held second place among Aegean Region provinces.

Ready-made garments sector declined; Denizli exports fell

Denizli, which was the second largest exporting province among Aegean Region provinces with March 2022 performance of USD 498 million, faced headwinds in 2023. When Denizli's exports fell 16 percent to USD 419 million in March, it dropped behind Manisa in ranking and took third place among Aegean Region provinces. The ready-made garments and textiles sector, which drove Denizli's exports, fell 25 percent from USD 132 million to USD 98 million, significantly affecting Denizli's export decline. The electrical-electronics sector provided USD 79 million in support to Denizli's exports, and the steel sector contributed USD 76 million. Balikesir, which made a strong start to 2023, continued its success in March. Balikesir advanced its March 2022 exports of USD 86 million by 30 percent to USD 112 million, making it both the export growth record holder among Aegean Region provinces and rising to fourth place by surpassing Aydin.  

Balikesir became the export growth record holder

  The electrical-electronics sector made the largest contribution to Balikesir's export growth with a record increase of 267 percent. Balikesir's electrical-electronics exporters, which posted USD 13.5 million in exports in March 2022, achieved USD 49.5 million in exports this March. Aydin increased exports by 8 percent from USD 88.7 million to USD 95.7 million. The mining sector provided the largest contribution to Aydin's exports with USD 19.5 million in exports.
