EİB Reports Exports of USD 1.7 Billion

EIB Exports USD 1.7 Billion Aegean Exporters Associations (EIB) increased its June exports by 10%, rising from USD 1.547 billion to USD 1.702 billion. Turkey's overall exports in June reached USD 23.4 billion, up 18%. Aegean exporters increased their exports in the first half of 2022 by 21.3%, rising from USD 7.6 billion to USD 9.276 billion, while Aegean exporters earned Turkey USD 17.934 billion in foreign exchange over the past year, up 21.4% from USD 14.774 billion. The industrial sector captured the lion's share of EIB exports with USD 957 million in exports, while the agricultural sector achieved USD 612 million in exports. The mining sector generated USD 132 million in foreign exchange. The Aegean Exporters Associations, which comprises 12 exporter associations, saw 10 associations increase their exports in June, while 2 associations fell short of their June 2021 performance.

Iron and steel at the top

The Aegean Iron and Non-Ferrous Metals Exporters Association maintained its leading position within EIB in June. EDDMİB increased its June 2021 exports of USD 223 million by 15% to USD 257 million.

Aquatic products and animal products in second place

The Aegean Aquatic Products and Animal Products Exporters Association, which rose to second place among EIB associations in May, sustained its standing as export partner by increasing June exports by 33.5% to USD 155.9 million, making it the export growth leader among the 12 associations within EIB. The Aegean Ready-made Garments and Apparel Exporters Association, a locomotive of employment and exports, increased its June 2021 exports of USD 131 million by 7% to USD 140 million in June 2022. The Aegean Mining Exporters Association achieved an export performance of USD 132 million with a 30% export growth rate. The Aegean Fresh Fruits and Vegetables Exporters Association raised its June 2021 exports of USD 112 million by 3% to USD 114.7 million in June 2022, joining the associations exceeding USD 100 million in exports. The Aegean Cereals, Legumes, Oilseeds and Products Exporters Association, which obtained approval for opium seed exports to India, increased its exports by 31%, rising from USD 73 million to USD 96 million. The Aegean Furniture, Paper and Forest Products Exporters Association, encompassing furniture, paper and non-wood forest products subsectors, increased its June 2021 exports of USD 63 million by 29% to USD 81.6 million. The Aegean Tobacco Exporters Association, Turkey's sole association in its sector, registered USD 76 million in exports, while the Aegean Dried Fruits and Products Exporters Association recorded USD 67.7 million in exports. The Aegean Textile and Raw Materials Exporters Association achieved USD 30 million in exports in June, while the Aegean Olive and Olive Oil Exporters Association showed USD 17.4 million in exports with a 22% increase, and the Aegean Leather and Leather Products Exporters Association registered USD 15.5 million in exports with a 13% increase. Among sectors not represented within the Aegean Exporters Associations, the chemicals sector drew attention with USD 189 million in exports, while the automotive components sector achieved USD 94 million, and the air-conditioning sector USD 70 million in exports. The electrical-electronics sector earned Turkey USD 59 million, and the machinery sector USD 46.6 million.

We met our target in the first half of the year

Aegean Exporters Associations Coordinator Chairman Jak Eskinazi, noting that they increased their first-half 2022 exports by 21.3% from USD 7.648 billion to USD 9.276 billion, stated that despite the slowdown in export growth over the past two months, they achieved their six-month targets. Sharing information that Turkey's six-month exports reached USD 126 billion, Eskinazi explained as follows: "Although the credit access problems our exporters face raise concerns about breaking export records, and although recent economic policy decisions burden our exporters and lower our export growth rate, thanks to our exporters' crisis management skills, in the second half of 2022 we will work towards achieving Turkey's USD 250 billion export target and EIB's USD 18 billion export target."

Aegean Region exports reached USD 2.669 billion

In June, the Aegean Region's exports increased by 12%, rising from USD 2.384 billion to USD 2.669 billion. Izmir increased its June 2021 exports of USD 1.125 billion by 17% to USD 1.315 billion in June 2022. The chemicals sector led Izmir's exports with USD 228 million, while ready-made garments and apparel contributed USD 130 million to Izmir's exports. Izmir steel exporters achieved USD 100 million in exports, while the automotive components sector registered USD 78 million and the electrical-electronics sector USD 72 million.

Denizli won the second-place race

Denizli emerged ahead in the race for second place between Manisa and Denizli with USD 492 million in foreign sales, while Manisa earned Turkey USD 450 million in foreign exchange. The ready-made garments and apparel sector contributed the largest share to Denizli's exports at USD 137.5 million, while the electrical-electronics sector led Manisa's exports at USD 181 million.

Muğla's exports increased 40%

Muğla increased its June exports by 40% to USD 102.5 million, ranking fourth among Aegean Region provinces. The aquatic products and animal products sector captured the lion's share of Muğla's exports with USD 74 million. Balıkesir was another province that increased its exports by 40%. Balıkesir increased its exports from USD 71.8 million to USD 100 million. The aquatic products and animal products sector and the electrical-electronics sector each contributed USD 21 million to these exports. In June, Aydın was the Aegean Region's export growth leader with an 48% jump, increasing its June 2021 exports of USD 65.6 million to USD 96.1 million. The mining sector led Aydın's exports with USD 27.6 million. Afyonkarahisar's exports increased by 11%, rising from USD 37 million to USD 41 million, with the mining sector marking Afyon's exports at USD 24.8 million. Kütahya increased its exports from USD 34.8 million to USD 40 million, achieving a 15% increase. Kütahya ceramic exporters demonstrated an export performance of USD 24 million. Uşak's exports decreased by 12%, falling from USD 35.4 million to USD 31.3 million. The textile sector and the aquatic products and animal products sector were Uşak's top two export sectors at USD 7.7 million and USD 7.1 million, respectively.
