Bursa Chamber of Commerce and Industry Opens Advanced Composites Research and Excellence Center with TRY 17 Million Investment

The Advanced Composites Materials Research and Excellence Center (İKMAMM) was established by the Bursa Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BTSO) to contribute to the sustainability of sectors producing and using advanced composite materials and to strengthen the sector's research and development infrastructure. The center, which was launched with a TRY 17 million investment in the Demirtaş Organized Industrial Zone, will serve industrialists as both a research and development and testing center. Established by BTSO within the Bursa Technology Coordination and Research and Development Center (BUTEKOM) with support from the Bursa Eskişehir Bilecik Development Agency (BEBKA), İKMAMM will play an important role in Bursa industry's transition to high value-added technological products and sectoral transformation. İKMAMM aims to position Bursa as a technology hub in the field of composite materials, which are characterized as the technology of the future.

İKMAMM, which will pioneer research and development work in the sector, will provide services across a broad range of expertise from prototype production to testing and analysis activities. The center, which offers prototype infrastructure with 20 different tests and 5 different methods in the composites field, stands out particularly with its strong equipment in sample production. The center houses equipment such as clean rooms for composite materials, autoclaves, RTM molding, thermoplastic molding presses, cure ovens, and prepreg machines.

İKMAMM, which hosts one of Turkey's most comprehensive combustion laboratories, will enable combustion testing of equipment used in rail systems, automotive and aerospace sectors to be conducted in Turkey. Industrialists will be able to conduct these tests at İKMAMM at considerably lower costs, quickly and reliably, rather than having to carry them out abroad at high costs as they previously did. İKMAMM, university-industry collaboration İKMAMM will also take on an important mission in developing university-industry collaboration. The center will enable the development of specific projects under university-industry collaboration frameworks with companies engaged in composite material production. The Ministry of Industry and Technology will provide technical support to 25 SMEs through İKMAMM over the next 3 years and assist them in developing and commercializing advanced technology products. Additionally, 23 doctoral student researchers under the TÜBİTAK Industrial Doctorate Program will work together with the expert İKMAMM team in research and development and production processes. Bursa Chamber of Commerce and Industry Board of Directors Chair İbrahim Burkay made the following remarks on the subject: "With the vision we have put forward as BTSO, we are directing our industrialists toward high value-added business areas. Alongside our traditional sectors such as automotive, textiles and machinery, we aim to make Bursa a global player in sectors such as rail systems, composites, aviation and defense. We expect all industrialists to benefit from the opportunities our center offers. I extend my gratitude to our Minister of Industry and Technology, Mustafa Varank, for their support of our project. In the near future, we aim to bring two additional excellence centers in nanotechnology and micromechanics microelectronics fields to our city." he said. Source
