Solvay to Launch PEKK Resin Production to Support Aerospace Market with Thermoplastic Composite Materials
Solvay will begin producing high-performance polyetheretoneketone (PEKK) polymers in the United States in early next year to support its composite materials business and meet growing aerospace demand.
Roger Kearns, Member of the Solvay Executive Committee, stated: "Solvay is also confirming its position in lightweight materials by combining the strengths of high-performance specialty polymers and composite materials for its own PEKK resin production."
"This new capacity will target rapidly increasing demand for thermoplastic composite and 3D printing components in aerospace and other markets."
Solvay will commence PEKK production under the NovaSpire® trade name in Augusta, holding a leading position in the field of metal replacement materials.
PEKK is used in carbon fiber-reinforced thermoplastic composites and in additive manufacturing, also known as 3D printing, for a range of industrial applications.
