Mitsubishi Engineering-Plastics Corporation Unveils Innovative Technology
Mitsubishi Engineering-Plastics Corporation (MEP), one of the world's leading manufacturers of high-performance polyacetal materials, has announced its innovative low-odour and low-residue Iupital™ 05 Polyacetal Series.
MEP is addressing the rapidly evolving stringent regulatory and functional requirements of the automotive, electronics and general industry markets for low formaldehyde emissions with its new polyacetal (POM) product family.
Conventional industrial polyacetal offerings can release unwanted gaseous formaldehyde by-products during processing, which has hindered their adoption in low-emission industries including automotive applications, electronics and general industry.
Through proprietary research and development efforts, MEP's engineering team has optimized production technology to achieve approximately 50% reduction in the amount of formaldehyde typically generated.
This innovation optimizes injection moulding production due to reduced mould deposits, decreases downtime required to clean moulds, and extends mould life, delivering lower operating costs. Additionally, the Iupital™ 05 Series emits significantly less formaldehyde odour during moulding, improving working conditions.
This best-in-class formulation enables the popular Iupital™ product series to significantly reduce formaldehyde generation while maintaining exceptional wear resistance and excellent chemical, thermal, electrical and mechanical properties.
MEP will introduce this new generation of innovative polyacetals in a range of different viscosities, including standard flow version F20-05 and high flow grades F30-05 and F40-05.
According to Kazuhiro Ando, Chief Executive Officer of MEP Japan, the key factor in MEP's new developments is matching industry needs emerging from customers while providing value-added products and services and simultaneously contributing to our natural environment.
Ando stated: "With this new production innovation, we are confident that MEP will not only successfully expand the already widely adopted Iupital™ portfolio by offering the industry a sought-after solution for emission reduction, but will also contribute positively to society by offering products with an even improved environmental footprint."
