LANXESS to Develop Products Using Artificial Intelligence Technology
LANXESS is pioneering a new approach in developing customer-specific high-performance plastics.
The specialty chemicals company is seeking to reduce the time spent on developing new materials by leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) technology.
To this end, LANXESS has entered into close cooperation with Citrine Informatics, a US-based artificial intelligence company specializing in data-driven material development. The two companies have launched a pilot project to assess the potential of artificial intelligence in plastic production.
The aim of this project is to further improve glass fibers, which LANXESS uses to reinforce many of its high-performance plastics and thereby enhance the performance of these materials.
Glass fiber coating plays a key role here. Glass fibers mixed with plastics to increase their mechanical performance are coated with a coating.
In this way, glass fibers bond more strongly to the plastic matrix, providing the properties required for high-performance plastics. The optimization of glass fiber coating is described as a complex, laborious and time-consuming process.
