LANXESS Acquires Brazilian Biocide Manufacturer IPEL

Specialty chemicals company LANXESS acquired Itibanyl Produtos Especiais Ltda (IPEL) on 3 February 2020. Competent antitrust authorities approved the transaction in early January. Based in Jarinu near São Paulo, IPEL is one of Brazil's leading biocide manufacturers and generated double-digit million euro sales in 2018. With the acquisition, LANXESS strengthens its position as one of the world's leading manufacturers of antimicrobial active ingredients and formulations. LANXESS took over approximately 100 employees and, in addition to the production facility, also acquired the Brazilian company's laboratory facilities. IPEL produces the majority of its sales as biocides and specialty chemicals for the paints and coatings industry. The product portfolio also includes preservatives for process control in water treatment and fungicides, as well as active ingredients for disinfection and cleaning products.
