LANXESS Donates One Million Liters of Disinfectant Solution

Specialty chemicals company LANXESS is donating 10 metric tonnes of its highly effective disinfectant Rely + On Virkon to hospitals, authorities and public institutions in 13 countries worldwide. The powder disinfectant is diluted with water on site and is sufficient for one million litres of disinfectant solution. For example, it can be used in hospitals to disinfect hard surfaces and equipment. "We want to help bring the global spread of coronavirus under control. With our disinfectant Rely + On Virkon, we can make an effective contribution to this goal," says Anno Borkowsky, member of the LANXESS Board of Management. "Many people, like hospital workers, are currently risking their own health to save the lives of others. With our donation, we want to protect them as well." The product donation is being delivered to institutions in 13 countries. In Europe, the product is being supplied to Germany, France, Italy, the United Kingdom, Spain and Poland, and in Asia to India, Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore. On the American continent, donations are being made to recipients in the USA, Brazil and Mexico. Anno Borkowsky said, "When selecting countries, we paid attention to where demand is particularly high and where our product is registered." In February, LANXESS had donated one metric tonne of Rely + On Virkon to hospitals in Wuhan, China.

Rely + On Virkon rapidly inactivates coronavirus

Independent tests have demonstrated that Rely + On Virkon inactivates a closely related surrogate of the currently circulating coronavirus strain. Based on these tests, it can be concluded that Rely + On Virkon is effective against SARS-CoV-2. Rely + On Virkon is diluted for application and sprayed onto hard surfaces and equipment. Therefore, during disinfection measures in hospitals, as well as at mass transit terminals, airports, shopping centres and similar facilities, it can help reduce contamination risk via surfaces, door handles, tables or chairs.
