Evonik Launches ZEOFREE 600 Additive
Evonik's Coatings Additives business unit has launched ZEOFREE 600 additive to combat "snail trail" – highly visible vertical streaks that mar the appearance of paint finishes. Known as "salyangoz izleri" in Turkish, these streaks typically emerge following the first contact of rain with building walls. Rain washes water-soluble components such as additives or emulsifiers from the paint. These leached materials run down the wall, leaving unsightly marks.
Evonik reports that when ZEOFREE 600 is added to coatings during or after formulation, it prevents snail trail formation. The powder additive consists specifically of calcium silicate with a porous structure. According to Evonik's explanation, the fine particles of ZEOFREE 600 function like a sponge, absorbing and retaining water-soluble components.
