Ecovia-Bio Commissions Polyglutamic Acid Production Facility

Ecovia-Bio is proud to announce that its new commercial production facility in Livonia, Michigan has commenced operations. This facility marks a historic milestone as Ecovia-Bio becomes the first and only producer of polyglutamic acid (PGA) and its derivatives in the United States.

PGA is commonly described as "nature's thickening agent." This bio-based and biodegradable polymer has a wide range of applications in cosmetics, agriculture and even baby diapers, replacing synthetic polyacrylates that degrade into long-lasting microplastics. In many regions of the world, the use of synthetic polyacrylates in certain applications is being banned to reduce human and environmental exposure to microplastics. Ecovia's new, state-of-the-art 20,000 square-meter production facility will provide its first customers with domestically produced high-quality PGA solutions to meet growing market demand. By establishing production facilities in the United States, Ecovia-Bio strengthens supply chain resilience and supports innovation among partners nationwide.
