Devan Chemicals has recently added two more products to its bio-based textile finishing range. One is a softener, the other a quick-drying finish. Both are derived from vegetable oils and align with the company's latest innovations in bio-based chemistry.

The Covid pandemic has served as an accelerator for a green economy worldwide, thanks to both changing consumer behaviour and government action. In Insites Consulting's recent Conscious Consumption Study, 84% of EU consumers consider sustainability important. This figure represents a clear increase compared to pre-pandemic results.

As a result, the world in general and the textile industry in particular are increasingly seeking products suited to sustainable and circular programmes. According to McKinsey & Company, the textile industry will experience innovations surrounding sustainably sourced raw materials and bio-based chemical additives to meet rising consumer demand.

Devan launched its first bio-based technology in 2019. The company has dedicated itself entirely to creating bio-based versions of existing textile finishes. Devan Chief Executive Officer Sven Ghyselinck states, "We have set ourselves a mission to expand our bio-based product range even further. We wanted to create an even greater impact on circularity, so we researched what fabric producers use more of: softeners and moisture management systems. By focusing more on large-volume products only, we can support the sector in having a greater impact on sustainability. Following the growing success of our natural antimicrobial BI-OME NTL, we are now proud to introduce our new natural Passerelle range."

Passerelle Soft NTL is a durable softness technology based on plant-derived contents. The technology is washable and can be used with natural fibres such as hemp and cotton, but is equally suitable for synthetic fibres such as rPES and PA. The biological content of the technology is above 85% (ASTM D6866-20).

Passerelle Quick-Dry NTL is a moisture management technology based on plant-derived contents. This bio-based coating provides high wicking and evaporation capability that helps water and perspiration evaporate more easily and faster. The technology is also biodegradable to >60% (28 days) according to OECD 301B.

Both products are available for immediate delivery from Devan. The Devan team and partners in major textile hubs are ready to provide promotional support. Since 2019, under the SceNTL brand, the company has launched Bio-flam (bio-based flame retardant), bio-based PCMs, natural antimicrobial (BI-OME NTL) and plant-based fragrances. Devan wants to play an active role in reducing the carbon footprint of the global textile industry and aims to continue renewing its product range through bio-based and sustainable chemistry.
