Air Awards and Huntsman Collaboration

Air Products and Huntsman announced that they have signed a long-term agreement for Air Products to build, own and operate a new steam methane reformer (SMR) and refrigeration facility in Geismar, Louisiana. The new Air Products facility, targeted to start operations in January 2020, will supply hydrogen, carbon monoxide (CO) and steam to Huntsman's Geismar operations. Located on land leased from Huntsman, the new facility will produce approximately 6.5 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) of CO, 50 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) of hydrogen and 50,000 pounds of steam per hour. Additionally, the facility will have expandability options to increase CO production to support further growth in the future.   Marie Ffolkes, President of Industrial Gases Americas at Air Products, stated: "We have a long-standing relationship with Huntsman at other operations, and our track record in reliability and customer service were instrumental in winning this supply contract. We are pleased to expand this relationship with our new facility in Geismar. This facility, which will support Huntsman, will feature the latest technology in terms of high reliability and sustainability, along with advanced energy efficiency and reduced emissions." Tony Hankins, President of Huntsman Polyurethanes, said: "Our facility in Geismar is one of three world-scale MDI production facilities primarily serving North and South America" and added: "This investment will support our global growth strategy, while also rapidly developing our acceleration area and capabilities. We look forward to the technology and reliability that Air Products will bring to our Geismar facility." Beyond supplying Air Products' new facility to Huntsman's Geismar production facility, Air Products' new facility will also be connected to the Gulf Coast Pipeline system and network (GCP). The 600-mile-long pipeline, whose foundation was laid in 2012, is the world's largest hydrogen production and pipeline network system. The GCP extends from the Houston Ship Channel in Texas to New Orleans, Louisiana and supplies 1.4 billion standard cubic feet (1.5 million Nm3 / hour) of hydrogen per day from 22 hydrogen production facilities to its customers.
