Sofidel Invests $185 Million
Sofidel’s new factory is set to achieve a production capacity exceeding 200,000 metric tons per year, representing a 50% increase, all thanks to the addition of a new Valmet paper mill machine. This development solidifies its position as Sofidel's most significant production facility on a global scale.
In response to the escalating demand in the United States, the Sofidel tissue paper group, renowned for its brands like Regina, Nicky, and others, is making a substantial investment of $185 million in its integrated plant located in Circleville, Ohio.
This strategic endeavor entails the construction of a new facility that will house the state-of-the-art Valmet DCT 200 paper mill machine, slated to commence operations in the third quarter of 2025, with a production capacity of 70,000 metric tons per year.
The Circleville plant, which already boasts two
Valmet Advantage NTT paper mill machines, will witness its production capacity surge to over 200,000 metric tons per year, marking a 50% increase, and affirming its status as Sofidel's paramount global production site.

Luigi Lazzareschi, CEO of Sofidel, remarked on this milestone: "Last year, we celebrated our first decade in the U.S. market—a decade marked by development and growth. Thanks in part to our proficient and cohesive U.S. team, as well as our fruitful collaborations with various institutions, from the state of Ohio to the supportive local communities, we embark on our second decade of operations in the U.S. with this significant investment in the Circleville plant. Today, Sofidel America operates production sites in six states, and this initiative will empower us to better cater to the increasing demands of our customers and continue nurturing our expansion in this country."
The Ohio plant was Sofidel's inaugural greenfield investment in the United States and remains its most advanced and sustainable facility to date. Situated on an expansive 280-acre (110-hectare) site, the plant benefits from abundant water, gas, and electricity resources, strategically located near a vital logistics hub for distribution services, supported by intermodal transport systems, and within proximity to major urban centers spanning just a few hundred miles.
