Improving Laboratory Efficiency
Roche has unveiled a new addition to its cobas® connection modules (CCM) lineup, known as the CCM Vertical.
This innovation enables the transportation of samples using overhead conveyors, opening up new possibilities for the transportation of samples across various
laboratory work areas.
Importantly, this system ensures that (emergency) exits remain accessible while connecting different sections of the laboratory. Additionally, it allows the transfer of samples between different levels within the laboratory.
As the healthcare landscape constantly evolves, there is a growing demand for automation in laboratories. This demand is driven by several factors, including a shortage of skilled personnel, increasing throughput requirements, the need for faster results, and a reduction in errors. Furthermore, laboratory space constraints often present challenges when attempting to expand testing capacity.

Ann Costello, Head of Roche Diagnostics Solutions at Roche Diagnostics, explained the significance of this innovation, stating, "Given the dynamic requirements of the healthcare system, laboratories and clinicians are expected to optimize laboratory operations and efficiencies while improving patient care.
We are excited about CCM Vertical; it simplifies and streamlines testing for laboratories of all sizes, throughputs, and disciplines, while supporting clinical decision-making to improve patient care."
The CCM Vertical system effectively addresses these challenges. It is a modular and flexible vertical transportation solution that includes elevator units, overhead conveyors, and overhead turn units. This system seamlessly integrates with existing CCM solutions without compromising on quality, reliability, or performance, similar to the CCM horizontal track.
CCM Vertical enables multidisciplinary connectivity through floors and ceilings, facilitating the movement of samples between different levels within the laboratory. This is particularly beneficial in laboratories where space constraints previously made it difficult to implement an effective transportation solution.
In essence, Roche's CCM Vertical offers laboratories an innovative and efficient way to optimize their operations, improve workflows, and enhance patient care.
