Collaboration from Textron System and Boston Materials
TextronInc. company, TextronSystems Corporation, and Boston Materials, Inc., announced that they have reached an agreement to collaborate on the development and industrialization of advanced high-temperature composites.
In partnership with Textron System and Boston Materials, a thermal protection system (TPS) will be developed that will provide higher durability and reduce the delivery costs of hypersonic vehicles.
Applied externally to the launch vehicle's outer structural shell to protect against extreme temperatures during reentry, the new TPS will in corporate Boston Materials' patented Z-axis Fiber technology. As the name suggests, Z-axis Fiber works in the z direction in a composite laminate to improve interlayer shear strength (ILSS) and plane properties.
Boston Materials CEO Anvesh Gurija lastated that his company's Z-axis Fiber will be applied to Textron Systems TPS in a carbon-carbon composite (CCC) and initialtestsare expected to yield a 30% increase in shear strength.

Boston Materials CEO Anvesh Gurija lastated that this collaboration further strengthens Boston Materials' position as a leading supplier of high-performance and reliable materials solutions.
