BENTONE® and BENAQUA® Clay Based Rheology Modifiers for Construction Applications
  • 25.12.2018
In construction applications such as plasters, rendering, flooring as well as EIFS and tile mortars flow control is very important. Cellulose ethers are mainly used to adjust the consistency and the water retention. However, the performance can be significantly improved by combining cellulosics with clay based grades. BENTONE ® OC, is a rheology modifier based on natural hectorite. When applied in combination with cellulose ether, BENTONE® OC improves the application behavior, such as trowel ability, and the pumpability of cement and lime/cement based renderings and plasters. Also the sag stability of the freshly applied material will be enhanced. BENTONE ® GS, based on highly purified and beneficiated hectorite, can be used as partial replacement for cellulose ether in pasty, emulsion based systems such as renderings and adhesives. The application of BENTONE ® GS typically results in optimized trowel ability and improved sag stability. Additionally, elongated open time after application and reduced water pick-up of the cured system can be observed BENAQUA® 4000, a rheology modifier based on a hectorite/ polymer composites, provides when formulated as partial replacement for cellulosics in cementitious EIFS- and tile adhesives significantly improved application properties and less stickiness on the tool during application. Additionally, the use of BENAQUA® 4000 results in strongly increased yield point which goes in line with the usually observed die enhanced sag stability after application.
