Joint Meeting of the World Coatings Council and BOSAD Was Held in Istanbul The annual meeting of the World Coatings Council (WCC) was held in Istanbul on Wednesday, March 15, hosted by the Association of Paint Industry (BOSAD). The main sponsor of the joint meeting, which brought together the most important representatives of the paint and coatings industry with a volume of 164 billion dollars, was the Istanbul Chemicals and Chemical Products Exporters' Association (IKMIB). Senior representatives of 11 different associations operating in many countries, including England, America, Mexico, Brazil, Australia, Spain, Germany and France attended the joint meeting held at Istanbul Swissotel The Bosphorus on Wednesday, March 15. World Coatings Council and BOSAD On the 20th Anniversary of BOSAD, the World Paint Industry Gathered in Istanbul The meeting started with the speeches of Tom Bowtell, President of the World Coatings Council, Akın Akçalı, Chairman of the Board of Directors of BOSAD, and Adil Pelister, Chairman of the Board of Directors of İKMİB. In his opening speech, Tom Bowtell, President of the World Coatings Council, said: “It is a thrill to be here, in Istanbul, to be in the annual meeting of the World Coatings Council. We have joined this joint event with BOSAD today. It is particularly an honor to be here, in such a special year for Turkey, the hundredth year of the Republic and also the 20th anniversary of the BOSAD," and expressed his gratitude to BOSAD Chairman of the Board Akın Akçalı. 1.4 Billion Dollars of Exports Were Realized in 2022

Akın Akçalı, Chairman of the Board of Directors of BOSAD, started his speech by expressing his pleasure to host this meeting on the 100th anniversary of our Republic and the 20th anniversary of BOSAD. Akın Akçalı shared information about BOSAD and the Turkish Paint Market in his speech. Akçalı said: “If we look at the Turkish Paint Market, the paint consumption per capita in Turkey is 11 kilograms. We are a total of 350 manufacturers with 20 medium and large-scale paint production companies. We provide employment for 300,000 people, either directly or indirectly. We export to nearly 200 countries. In 2022, we realized an export of 1.4 billion dollars, including total raw materials. Russia, Iraq, Uzbekistan, Iran and Egypt are among the countries we export the most. As for the construction industry, we are ranked fifth after England, Germany, France and Italy. “The Target of Chemical Industry in 2030 is to Exceed 50 Billion Dollars”

After Akçalı, Adil Pelister, Chairman of the Board of Directors of İKMİB, delivered a speech. Adil Pelister started his speech by thanking his colleagues, who did not hesitate to help provinces hit by the earthquake disaster. Pelister shared the figures and targets of the Turkish Chemical Industry in his speech; “As of 2022, the Turkish chemical industry ranked first with 33.6 billion dollars in total exports of 254 billion dollars. Today, it is close to 15 percent of the total exports of our country. In 2030, the target of the Turkish chemical industry is to exceed 50 billion dollars.” In the joint meeting, the leading names in the industry from around the world and our country made presentations. During the meeting, speeches were delivered on important issues ranging from REACH to the global paint industry's position, and a panel discussion titled "Critical Developments in Coatings Industry" was held concurrently. Panelists gave talks on sustainability, microplastics and a global perspective on restrictions on biocide use. Participants from the leading companies of the industry followed the meeting with great interest. The meeting ended with a cocktail ceremony held after the closing speeches of Tom Bowtell, President of the World Coatings Council, and Akın Akçalı, Chairman of the Board of BOSAD.
