Steel has been the most important structural metal for centuries and corrodes in open atmospheric conditions. Therefore, corrosion constitutes a very important and critical agenda for all metal manufacturers.
With the increase in steel production and usage rate, anti-corrosion activities and the need for surface treatment are also inevitable. In this respect, cathodic protection methods such as zinc-based coatings (galvanized, electrolytic zinc alloy and lamellar zinc coatings and paints) are still widely used in the industry as a valid corrosion protection method.
In this critical process, in order to bring the techno-economic effects of corrosion to the agenda and to find solutions to the needs of the sector in this regard, information and process themed on the role of surface treatments in corrosion and corrosion protection under the name of meeting of professionals in cooperation with BORÇELİK TECHNICAL ACADEMY-BTA and TURKEY SURFACE TREATMENTS ASSOCIATION-TÜYİDER- SURFACE ACADEMY Within the scope of the evaluation seminars, the managers of the businesses operating in Bursa and its surroundings came together at Kalder Bursa branch on June 15th.
The opening speeches were made by Baran Burat, Member of the Executive Board of Borçelik, followed by İbrahim Doğangün, Chairman of the Board of Tuyider.
Professionals Meeting organisation in 5 sessions by under the moderation of Surface Academy Scientific Board Member Assoc.Prof.Dr Ekrem Altuncu has been realized.The subject of corrosion was discussed by our invaluable academicians "Prof.Dr. Ali Fuat Çakır and Prof.Dr. Mustafa Ürgen-İTÜ” was shared with the participants through his long years of experience and real examples.
Afterwards, Borcelik R&D Center Director Celal Sayalıoğlu's corrosion research,test and control applications within Borçelik were presented. In the afternoon sessions, İzzet Aydın, Turkey General Manager of Hillebrand Chemicals, emphasized the importance of electroplating zinc coating types and coating selection. In the last session, Metaltek Laboratories Director Tuncay Katırcı discussed the corrosion tests and standards in detail.
Borçelik has an annual steel production capacity of 1.5 million tons. It offers engineering solutions to the steel needs of all sectors, especially the automotive industry and white goods sectors.
It aims to develop coatings and surface technologies suitable for the needs of the global market, with training and research activities within the scope of cooperation with both Borçelik R&D Center and BTA and Tüyider -Surface Academy.
