PPG to Increase U.S. Aerospace Products
  • 04.07.2022
PPG has just revealed that it would boost production to keep up with the growing demand for its commercial aerospace aftermarket products. In order to meet increased demand from both new and existing clients, the company anticipates up to a 20% increase in employment levels at its manufacturing facilities in Huntsville, Alabama and Sylmar, California. “We’ve benefited from year-over-year improvements in the market,” said Dan Korte, PPG global vice president, Aerospace. “As travelers continue returning to the skies, we are focused on meeting the immediate and longer-term needs of our customers.” To improve the speed of delivery of its sealants and coatings for the aerospace industry, PPG is also investing in more automated manufacturing. The company, for instance, is increasing production of these ready-to-use cartridge-based systems that store, mix, and facilitate the application of aerospace sealants by commissioning an automatic SEMKIT® filling machine at its Shildon, United Kingdom, aerospace facility. “With increased employment at our major U.S. manufacturing plants, we can boost our supply throughout our global network of 16 aerospace application support centers (ASC),” said Korte. “By further automating our processes at these ASCs, we can quickly ship products directly to our local customers and do our part to help the aviation industry thrive once again.” PPG has disclosed plans to spend $17 million on the construction of an ASC in Toulouse, France. It is predicted that operations would start in the fourth quarter of 2023.     Note: Content may be edited for style and length.   Source
