We are in an era where any kind of organic and naturalcontent has gained importance. It is highly possible to hear these concepts in many fields, such as organic food, organic garment, organic packaging, natural soaps, and vegan cosmetic products. So, let’s clarify the meaning of these concepts and then give the details about the alternative cosmetic products, which is our main topic.
What is Organic Product?
To characterize a product as organic, it must be certified by the relevant institutions that it does not contain harmful chemicals and is organic. These certificates include: ECO-CERT Certificate, ICEA Certificate, BDIH Certificate, Cosmebio Certificate, Eco Garantie. The products intended for skin enter the body through absorption. Gravitation towards organic, natural, and vegan alternative cosmetic products has occurred since all the harmful substances in the products without pure content enter the body (researches reported that nearly 60% of the product is absorbed by the skin), and it takes a long time to eliminate them from the body.
What is Organic Cosmetics?
Although organic cosmetics and natural cosmetics often replace each other, they actually have very different meanings. Organic cosmetics are produced agriculturally without using any harmful chemicals and controlled at each step from production to consumption and are certified. Organic cosmetics also require storage conditions and manufacturing sites suitable for organic products in addition to their content.
What is Natural Cosmetics?
Natural cosmetic products are generally formulated with herbal ingredients and do not have any harmful content for the skin. Natural cosmetics are products manufactured from natural raw materials of plant, animal, and mineral origin. Natural products do not contain chemicals such as synthetic dyes, silicone, paraffin, and other petroleum products.
What is Vegan Cosmetics?
Vegan cosmetics have contents that differ from natural or organic products. These products do not contain any animal-derived substances such as gelatin, glycerin, cholesterol, carmine, lanolin, guanine, collagen, but having no animal-based content is not enough to
name any cosmetics vegan since it also needs to be not tested on animals. You can recognize a vegan product with the Leaping Bunny logo. Cosmetics bearing the European Vegetarian Union, PETA, Vegan.org and Vegan Society logos are also vegan. The end consumer can only have an idea about the content of these products after packaging. A non-specialist person cannot determine the content of an unpackaged product. Therefore, we can only know whether a purchased product is organic, natural, or vegan by checking its label and mandatory information on the label, including the organic agriculture logo, control, and certification body code and logo, statement, and certificate number showing that it has been produced as per the relevant regulation.
