Holcim has announced a strategic investment in Neustark, an innovative cleantech startup tackling one of today's most critical challenges: CO2 emissions.
Neustark’s groundbreaking technology ingeniously mineralizes CO
2 found in construction demolition materials, effectively removing it from the atmosphere and locking it away for good.
Holcim's strong commitment to advancing circular construction and its expertise in recycling perfectly align with Neustark's ambitious goal of eliminating one million tons of CO2 by 2030. Notably, Neustark’s groundbreaking solution is already transforming sustainability practices at Holcim Switzerland, paving the way for a global revolution in eco-friendly construction.
Born as a spinoff of ETH Zurich in 2019, Neustark’s proprietary technology, spearheaded by founders Johannes Tiefenthaler and Valentin Gutknecht, is a significant move towards a greener, more sustainable future. Their innovative process captures atmospheric CO
2, liquifies it, and seamlessly incorporates it into recycled concrete, resulting in a dual-benefit material that’s both environmentally friendly and structurally robust.
Tobias Sugg, Head of RMX Performance of Holcim Switzerland and Italy, commented, “With neustark, we are pioneering circularity in the construction industry, showing that recycled and reinforced materials can be just as good as new – and even better. Successfully implemented in Switzerland, we are ready to deploy this solution globally, creating a win-win solution for all – our industry, our customers and communities, and the planet.”
