Royal Magenta has been named the Global Automotive Color of the Year for 2022 by Axalta. Luxury color concept showcases move toward magenta hues, sustainability and autonomous driving.
Royal Magenta has been named the Global Automotive Color of the Year 2022 by Axalta Coating Systems (NYSE: AXTA), a prominent global producer of liquid and powder coatings.
Royal Magenta is a deep cherry color that gives a sumptuous touch to the market for the eighth edition of the exclusive Global Automotive Color of the Year. The sturdy design is finished in a stunning dark finish with merlot and burgundy tones. In the daylight, the color resembles cherry red, but at night, it takes on a dark, enigmatic appearance.
“Royal Magenta delivers a new luxury look that is optimised for future mobility,” said Hadi Awada, Senior Vice President, Global Mobility Coatings at Axalta. “With innovative mobility-sensing and environmentally-optimised waterborne technologies, we’re helping the mobility industry transition toward increasingly sustainable solutions, electric vehicles and autonomous driving.”
Autonomous driving
Royal Magenta is created for all vehicle types and adds a splash of color to the mobility palette. Royal Magenta is a fashionable and functional color that has been designed to operate with radar systems on autonomous vehicles of all sizes.
Royal Magenta's sophistication stems from Axalta's history of providing high-end finishes to the mobility market, as well as worldwide color trends that transmit elegance through an indulgent and celebratory color palette. In the market, burgundy, violet, and cherry-like hues are growing increasingly popular. With faceted jewel details, the premium color gives an opulent finish that appears luscious.
“This year, we have designed a complex-looking colour that can be applied in a simplified manner,” said Nancy Lockhart, Global Product Manager of Color at Axalta. “The design process began by tinting waterborne paints with various layering systems to provide depth and colour. With sustainability in mind, the end colour was achieved with a conventional basecoat – clearcoat layering. It’s as easy on the eyes as it is to apply.”
