AFA-GS is an exclusive CR&D product. AFA-GS is a new step in cosmetic active ingredients for this time. It was realized to take care of Mitochondrial DNA Structure Defence (MDSD) in the skin cells to fight the exogenous (UV beams, Heavy metals, thin powders) and endogen (stress and food toxins) causes of damage.
AFA-GS comes from a selective extraction of Klamath Alga (Aphanizomenon Flos Aquae = AFA) to preserve dermatological properties of its active ingredients. Klamath Alga is a wild fresh water blue-green alga that grows in the Klamath Lake, a volcanic crater spring lake in South Oregon.
Klamath Lake waters are among the richest in trace elements in the world (especially Fe, Zn, Se, and Mg), due to the “young” eruptive materials. The Native American tribes of Oregon (Bannock and Chasta) as a wide activity natural medicine utilize Klamath Alga.
In recent times, many scientific researches and many studies on AFA composition showed the amazing richness of this blue-green alga, also in comparison with the best known Spirulina and Chlorella.
The more interesting active ingredient is Phycocyanin -C, a chromophore complex made by the repetition of a protein and a tetra pyrrole aggregate.
Phycocyanin-C is present also in some other blue-green algae, but in AFA, it shows an important ability to defend Mitochondric DNA from oxidation and exogenous and endogenous
pollution.
AFA-GS shows also a wide and complete range of vitamins (mainly of B group), essential amino acids, Omega-3 fatty acids (mainly alfa-linolenic), controlled growth factor, that make AFA one of the more complete and effective health and wellness natural sources.
On the skin care point of view, AFA-GS is an extraordinary source of Glyceryl Glucoside, which allows to keep a sufficient quantity of bonded water also in very hard dehydration conditions.
Phycocyanin-C (Antioxidant Activity)
Klamath Alga is the most rich, among blue-green algae, in Phycocyanins quantity (over 15% on dry matter). Phycocyanin has a characteristic light blue colour, absorbing orange and red light, particularly near 620 nm (depending on which specific type it is), and emits fluorescence at about 650 nm (also depending on which type it is).
Phycocyanin-C shows a very important anti-oxidant power in the Tocopherol test. This peculiarity, in synergy with the other characteristics of AFA-GS makes it a key complex for the fibroblasts Mitochondrial DNA defence.
Detoxifying Activity
It is found out that Klamath Alga is very effective in eliminating the heavy metals (especially Cadmium, Lead, Mercury) with a physiological process, without any chelation, that means a real excretion from the body (S.Ichimaru and N.Ogino).
Antipollution Test
‘In Vitro’ test to evaluate of protective effect against air pollutants on reconstructed human epidermis.
The aim is to evaluate the cell survival by MTT, as indicator of skin protective effect on the 3D human skin model stressed with air pollutants mix (PC: As, Cd, Co, Cr, Ni, Pb, Sr, Sb) -> AFA GS 3% and 10% reduces the pro- inflammatory cytokines production.
Anti-Inflammatory Activity
AFA-GS shows also an important anti-inflammatory activity making it suitable for sensitive and stressed skin. Monocytes and macrophages synthesize and release into their environment a variety of cytokines and other proteins that play a central role in Anti-Inflammatory Activity AFA-GS shows also an important anti-inflammatory activity making it suitable for sensitive and stressed skin.
THP-1 is a human monocytes leukaemia cell line; these cells have been reported to produce proinflammatory cytokines (IL-1, IL-6, and TNF) and chemokines (IL-8 and MCP-1) in response to lipopolysaccharide (LPS) stimulation. LPS is the principal component of the outer
membrane of Gram-negative bacteria.
Recent studies have elucidated how LPS is recognized by monocytes and macrophages of the innate immune system. Human monocytes are exquisitely sensitive to LPS and respond by expressing many inflammatory cytokines.
The aim of the present experiment was to evaluate the anti-inflammatory activity of product AFA_GS.the development of acute and chronic inflammation.
THP-1 cells were incubated for 2 hours with different concentrations of AFA_GS sample according to the previous cytotoxity data: 3%, 2.5%, 2%, 1.50%, 1%, 0.5%, 0.25%, and 0.125%. Later, THP-1 cells were stimulated to produce proinflammatory cytokines (TNF-α) with LPS [100 μg/L] for 1 hour.
The concentration of TNF-α released into the culture medium were determined by an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA test) (Cayman Chemical).
The experimental conditions were: LPS sample (cells treated with LPS); Ctrl- sample (cells not treated with LPS); AFA GS sample (cells treated with AFA-GS and then stimulated with LPS); The concentrations of TNF-α (pg/ml) released in the different culture medium examinated from THP-1 cells after stimulation with LPS are shown.
Glyceryl Glucoside Multilevel Skin Hydration
Glyceryl Glucoside skin care effectiveness is showed by the Hydration Test (Delfin Hydrameter system) at different skin depths and at different times after the application of a gel (AFA-GS 2%).
Skin Elasticity
The good preservation of Mitochondrial DNA is showed also by the increase and time lasting of skin elasticity for many hours after the application of a gel containing 2% AFA-GS.
