2022 Export Leader Chemicals Industry Targets Permanent Championship
Focusing on leadership after rising to the second rank in exports in 2019, the chemicals industry achieved the top position by being the largest exporter of Türkiye with a record export value of 33.6 billion dollars in 2022.
The
chemicals industry raised the bar by achieving 32 percent growth in exports compared to the previous year and increasing its share in total exports of Türkiye to 13.2 percent and steered towards permanently occupying the first place.
The chemicals industry achieved 92 percent growth in exports in the last 5 years and made a place for itself at the top with a record export of 33.6 billion dollars in 2022. The industry continues to be Türkiye’s rising star in exports.
Becoming the export champion in 2002 and steering towards permanently occupying the first place, the industry grew by 4.2 percent on the basis of quantity in the export of chemicals and products, while the export value per kilograms of the sector exceeded the 1-dollar limit and increased by 30 percent to 1.16 dollars. According to 2022 data, the sector that exported to the highest number of countries was chemicals with 232 countries and regions.
The top 10 receivers of chemicals exports were Holland, USA, Italy, Romania, Lebanon, Russia, Germany, Spain, Iraq and South African countries. While 40 percent of the industry’s total exports was made to the EU countries, the rate of exports to South Africa within the scope of the Far Countries Strategy announced by the Ministry of Trade increased by 270 percent and reached a record high.
“Plastics and Products” became the highest exported product group in 2022 with 13.82% increase and 10.22 billion dollars in export value while having a total of 30.4% share in the industry’s exports.
The second group was “Mineral Fuels, Mineral Oils, and Products” with 73.93% increase and 9.85 billion dollars in export value and “Inorganic Chemicals” occupied the third
place with 57.73% increase and 3.26 billion dollars in export value.
Other product groups that were exported the most in 2022 chemicals exports were “Essential Oils, Cosmetics and Soap”, “Rubber, Rubber Products”, and “Pharmaceuticals”.
