TAI Became PCT Patent Champion TAI was selected as the patent champion by PCT. As of 2022, Turkish Aerospace Industries made 175 national and 87 international applications, and the total number of utility model applications was 78. 232 of the national, international and utility model applications were made in the last 3 years. TAI was determined as the “Patent Champion” by PCT in the first quarter of 2022. TAI, with a total of 78 utility model applications, received the “WIPO Best Domestic Invention Award”, “Sertaç Köksaldı Intellectual Property Rights Achievement Award”, ISIF’19 GRAND PRIX and IFIA GRAND PRIX awards, respectively. Turkish Aerospace Industries, which carries out studies to increase the patent application and quality, has filed patent applications for the air data computer, flight computer, navigation systems and landing systems used in ANKA. At the same time, TAI; There are also patent applications for the thermal trace enhancing system to be used in ŞİMŞEK, flight control mechanisms in HÜRKUŞ and HÜRJET aircraft.  
  Turkish Aerospace was incepted under the Ministry of Industry and Technology on June 28, 1973 to reduce Turkey’s foreign dependence in defense industry. With the decision to use F-16 aircrafts to meet the Turkish Air Force's fighter aircraft need, Turkish Aerospace was incepted by TAI in 1984 for a period of 25 years as a Turkish-U.S. joint investment company to carry out the manufacture of F-16 aircrafts, integration of on-board systems and flight tests .
Before the end of the 25-year period, Turkish Aerospace was restructured through the purchase of Turkish Aerospace's foreign shares by Turkish shareholders in 2005. Thereunder, TAI and TUSAŞ were merged under Turkish Aerospace Inc. to broaden its activities and has become Turkey's technology center for the development, modernization, manufacture, system integration and lifecycle support of the aviation and space industry systems.
