The acceleration in industrialization creates a new problem due to increased population volume. “Sound and Noise”. But what is sound? “Sound” means physical events that stimulate the hearing sense in the human ear, occur due to waves created in the air by a vibrating source, and that spread through horizontal waves in the spreading direction of vibrations. On the other hand, “noise” means situation where such sounds are high, irregular and complex. In physical terms, sound means energy transmission by horizontal pressure waves in line with the vibration movement. “Frequency” means the number of vibrations created by sound waves in a second. Its Unit is Hertz (Hz). “Period” means a time required for a vibration. Its unit is second (sec). The sound absorption performances of materials in connection with frequencies are corelated with the absorption coefficient. A portion of the sound is reflected when the arriving sounds hits a surface and the portion that passes through the material is transferred.
While it passes through the material, the sound is energy is converted in to heat energy due to resistance and friction and absorbed partially. The sound absorption coefficient is the ratio which the arriving sound energy is converted into heat energy.
It is theoretically shown with ‘α’ and its value is between 0-1. Materials with high α values are classified as “Sound Absorbent” and materials with low α values are classified as “Sound Reflector”. Considering all the aforesaid, the highly-sound absorbent PLUSOL SP-10 product developed by Pluskim Polyurethane also possesses other features such as incombustibility and miscellaneous mechanical properties, it is entirely open-cell and represents an environmental friendly polyurethane system. It will find a broad area of use especially in the construction sector as well as in many industrial areas such as automotive and textile. Serkan Türkyılmaz Chemist Pluskim Kimya San. Tic. A.Ş.     The conducted tests show that during an increase from low frequency values to high frequency values, polyurethane, which has a high sound absorption value, yield better results compared to all its rivals.
