New York Plans to Achieve Net Zero Emissions by 2050

New York Governor Andrew M. Cuomo and legislative leaders agreed to implement Senate Bill S6599, which set a clear zero-emission economy target by 2050. The legislation is among the most aggressive climate change action plans the US has ever had. The Mayor of New York, Bill de Blasio, first introduced the ’New Green Deal Nisan in April, a $ 14 billion plan to reduce the city’s greenhouse gas emissions by 30% by 2030. The concept included “OneNYC 2050: Building a Strong and Fair City”. According to the city press release, the plan will include several initiatives that will help the government achieve full carbon neutrality by 2050, reducing emissions to a certain extent, in light of the figures followed since 2005. Again at the end of April, the Climate Mobility Act, a law designed for radical energy efficient improvements, was approved by a package of proposals and decisions. Under these legislative proposals, 100% of the roof areas of new residential and commercial buildings should cover one of the three green roof options. These options are green roofs, solar panels and / or small wind turbines. In other cities of the United States, this rate is only 25- 50%, so several incentives are planned to cover the cost of installation for New York. The renovation of thousands of buildings is estimated to cost about $ 4 billion.
