Bosad Successfully Represents the Paint Industry
With more than 20 working groups and 72 member organizations, The Association of Paint Industry (Bosad), has been operating since 2003. Bosad is a strong and respected professional organization that represents anufacturers and raw material / packaging suppliers of Architectural Paints, Furniture and Wood Paints, Automotive Paints, Industrial Paints and Protective Paints, Powder Coatings, Marine Paints, Printing Inks and has been putting forth significant efforts in line with the needs of its members since its establishment.
I believe that today, compared to the past, this professional organization has much more important duties than before, in order to increase the international competitiveness of our industry and to transform the domestic market conditions into a better form. Based on this belief and at the discretion of the members, I have been serving as the chairman of the association for 2 terms.
Our association, which has been carrying out its activities since 2003, gathers the producer and supplier organizations of our country’s paint and related raw material industry under a sectoral roof, ensures cooperation among the members of the association in accordance
with the legislation, and represents the sector in the national and international arena.
One of the most important activities of our association is to follow the size of the Construction Paints Market on a quarterly basis since 2005. Through an independent
organization, we can see the growth/change trend in the architectural paints market through our member organizations, which represent 80% of the market.
The years 2018 and 2019 were the years when we experienced a contraction in terms of tonnage in the paint industry. I can say that there are contractions of up to 20% for these years. However, as a result of both the base effect and the developments and changes in final consumer preferences as a result of the pandemic process, the construction paints industry reached a size of 517,000 tons and a turnover of 4 billion TL with an increase of
around 28% in 2020. We have seen that the growth in the domestic market in the sector is also reflected in the export wing, and that our exports exceeded 110 million dollars with a growth of 10% as of 2020, only in decorative paints. We estimate the end of the year to be around 600,000 tons with a growth of around 15%.
Covid-19 has affected the paint industry as well as all other industries, changing the economic activities of our members, with a range of production to marketing. The
production stages of our products, their contents and market channels are different today compared to the pre-pandemic period. At this point, we realized the ‘Pandemic Period Paint Preference Research Project’ -which all our members needed- and shared the results for our project participant members and presented them to their benefits.
Studies in the field of Recovery Contribution Share Regulation and Implementation Circular, Domestic Goods Communiqué Practices, Biocidal Products Regulation, Processed Goods Communiqué, and unit price studies with the T.C. Ministry of Environment and Urbanization
High Science Council officials within the scope of Architectural Paints, are among the bureaucratic studies we have carried out recently. Studies within the scope of our membership in Turkey IMSAD, our joint activities with institutions such as the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey, the Chemical Industry Platform, the Chambers of Commerce and Industry, the Turkish Exporters’ Assembly and the Istanbul Chemical Products and Exporters’ Association are also continuing.
We participate in international studies within the framework of memberships of the World Coatings Council and the European Council of The Paint, Printing Ink and Artists’ Colours Industry. We aim to contribute to the development of the Turkish Paint Industry and to offer a holistic perspective in terms of environment and economy.
In this context, we started the preparatory work for the “Turkish Paint Industry Sustainability Report” with the support of the Istanbul Chemical Products and Exporters’ Association.
In order to be a part of the sustainable ecosystem in the globalizing world, we participate in the studies about Titanium Dioxide, REACH, CLP, VOC, TDG (Hazardous Goods Transportation), GHS (Globally Harmonized System), biocides, sustainability and European Green Consensus related to the paint industry in the world and in Turkey. We closely follow developments that play a strategic role for the whole world, such as the Green Deal adaptation process and the Paris Climate Agreement.
Our bureaucratic meetings and works with public institutions and organizations are continuing at full speed, representing the manufacturers and suppliers of Architectural Paints, Furniture and Wood Paints, Automotive Paints, Industrial Paints and Protective Paints, Powder Coatings, Marine Paints, Printing Inks, and related raw materials. We continue to benefit our industry with the activities carried out by more than 20 technical and professional “Working Groups” consisting of relevant experts from 72 Bosad member organizations.
The Virtual Congress on Organic Coatings, Polymers and Related Materials, which was organized by our Congress Scientific Committee and included national and international academic studies, was held between 08-09 December 2021 with intense participation. Our paintistanbul & Turkcoat Exhibition, which is held with the participation of national and international paint, raw material, production equipment and packaging manufacturers, will be organized in cooperation with Artkim Fuarcılık A.Ş., between 17-19 March 2022 in Istanbul Expo Center, by taking the Covid-19 precautions. On this occasion, we welcome all our sector stakeholders to our congress and fair.
